PGRN Research Groups and Network Resources

The purpose of the PGRN is to conduct research into understanding the genetic basis of variable drug responses, both therapeutic and adverse. The scientific objectives include definition of the pressing problems for safe and effective use of medications, establishment of cross-disciplinary groups, application of current genetic and genomic methods, discovery and replication studies to identify variation in critical genes and biological pathways, elucidation of the functional consequences of genetic variation, and understanding the clinical implications to predict drug responses. The aim for having a network is to accomplish ¿more than would be possible with regular research grants, to elevate the field for all researchers¿ as stated in RFA-GM-10-001. Research projects, collaborations, and partnerships are funded through the PGRN.

  • Research Groups – These are dynamic, multidisciplinary teams that competed independently for support for studies in pharmacogenomics. They cover a broad range of scientific and medical subject areas and include cardiovascular, cancer-related, mental health and basic fundamental and translational research projects.
  • Network Resources – These are specialized sites that competed to offer capacity and collaborations to the PGRN. Network resources support statistical analysis, next generation sequencing, ontology development, studies in populations linked to EMRs, and an alliance with the RIKEN Center for Genomic Medicine.
  • PGRN Partners – These are groups that are not funded through the network, but they offer coordination of their projects and expertise with the PGRN.
