The NIH has announced that it has established a Precision Medicine Initiative Working Group that will develop a plan for creating and managing a large research cohort of 1 million individuals from multiple ethnic groups in the United States. The health data and biospecimens can be be used by researchers to understand human health and disease and ultimately to enable better prevention and therapeutic measures. One of the opportunities presented in the report was focused on pharmacogenomics. That is, the cohort would enable researchers the ability to "identify the causes of individual variation in response to commonly used therapeutics (commonly referred to as pharmacogenomics)." This cohort presents a unique opportunity for PGRN investigators.
