Travel Award: $1,000 domestic, $2,000 international

PGRN is pleased to announce three $1,000 PGRN Travel Awards for the in person CPIC/PGRN Meeting on May 10-13 in Colorado. The purpose of the PGRN Travel Awards is to support travel to the PGRN Annual Meeting and acknowledge excellence in research focused in the field of pharmacogenomics by an Early Career, Postdoctoral, and Predoctoral member of the PGRN. For one international awardee, one of these awards will be increased to $2,000 to support the high cost of international travel.

Mission

The purpose of the PGRN Travel Awards is to support travel to the PGRN Annual Meeting and acknowledge excellence in research focused in the field of pharmacogenomics by an Early Career, Postdoctoral, and Predoctoral member of the PGRN. For one international awardee, one of these awards will be increased to $2000 to support the high cost of international travel.

Criteria & How to Apply

Applicants must be PGRN members with their dues currenlty paid.

  • At the time of the award deadline, applicants for the PGRN Travel Awards must be Early Career, Postdoctoral, or Predoctoral members of the PGRN (please see definitions below).
  • Applicants are required to submit an abstract at the PGRN annual meeting as the presenting author. Applicants should submit the abstract they intend to submit to the annual meeting as part of the award application.
  • Applicants must submit a brief (not more than 1000 words) personal statement that describes their accomplishments to date and how attendance at the PGRN annual meeting will impact their career.
  • Applicants must submit a current CV or resume.
  • Applicants must submit a brief (not more than 1000 words) letter of recommendation from an individual familiar with the scientific achievements and aptitudes of the applicant. Up to 2 additional letters of recommendation may be submitted but are not required.
  • Applicants must agree to deliver a brief presentation describing their research at the PGRN Annual Meeting. Applicants must submit a color photograph (TIFF, EPS, or JPEG) measuring at least 4x6 cm at 300 dpi resolution for publication in PGRN announcements and on the PGRN website.

Definitions

A PGRN predoctoral member is defined as: being enrolled in a graduate or professional program at a degree-granting institution of higher learning. Graduate and professional students are considered predoctoral members of the PGRN.

A PGRN postdoctoral member is defined as: having obtained their doctoral degree and are currently working in a clinical or postdoctoral trainee program. Residents and postdoctoral fellows are considered postdoctoral members of the PGRN.

A PGRN early career member is defined as being within 10 years of their terminal degree or post-doctoral training program, whichever is latest. The PGRN embraces an inclusive view of early career membership and individuals with extenuating circumstances or experiencing prolonged interruptions to an individual’s career such as pregnancy, major illness/injury, or caregiver responsibilities may be considered early career members at the PGRN’s discretion.

Review Process

The PGRN Early Career Committee will select the awardees, who will be notified of the decision prior to the PGRN Annual Meeting. PGRN seeks to promote gender equality and increase diversity in all forms throughout its programs. Awards are distributed based on the merit of the trainee’s application and scientific accomplishments. Travel Awards will be presented to the awardees by the PGRN President or other official representative of the PGRN at the Annual Meeting. Travel Awardees will be honored with a plaque and a travel honorarium of $1000. For one international PGRN awardee, one of these awards will be increased to $2000 to support the high cost of international travel. The awardees will be spotlighted in the final program, the PGRN newsletter, and on the website, and receive complementary registration to the meeting.
